RV interiors are notorious for being covered in wallpaper, whether it’s a neutral color palette of beiges and browns, or something retro and colorful. Either way, you may be wishing that there was something you could do to modernize and brighten up the look of your RV kitchen. (And there is, keep reading!)

Our 2008 Tiffin Allegro Open Road had beige wallpaper with a strip of a leaf-patterned design running midway through the kitchen backsplash. It needed to go! I did some research and discovered that a peel and stick backsplash could be applied directly on top of the existing wallpaper. Plus, it’s easy to install so I could tackle the project myself. So when the weekend hit and the kids went down for their naps, I started in on my kitchen backsplash modernization project.

First, I peeled off the strip of wallpaper running midway through the backsplash area; it came right off. My husband removed the blinds around the kitchen window so I could apply the tile right next to the window. (And he also installed a sleek new kitchen faucet, which really makes a big visual impact.)

Next, I prepped the walls by cleaning them thoroughly with a degreaser. Since I didn’t have any TSP, I used a combination of Bar Keeper’s Friend, Simple Green, and dish soap.

Finally, I started trimming and sticking the backsplash sticker tiles onto the wall. The time consuming part is measuring and trimming the tile sheets so they fit perfectly around the window, electrical outlets, and all the nooks that stick out along the top cabinet edge. I used a pair of sharp scissors to cut and trim the tile sheets.

It took us about six hours total to complete the project, and I am thrilled with the outcome. These are the peel and stick tiles I used: Tic Tac Tiles. I ended up using 20 sheets for the kitchen backsplash in my RV. Thanks to the white subway tile design we chose, our RV kitchen is brighter and radiates a modern vibe.
